The Cobra was designed to skate across weaker waves and perform when conditions improve. I’ve had fun surfing the Cobra in everything from waist-high waves to overhead hurricane swell. The versatility is due to the board’s deep single to double concave and parallel outline. The single concave starts at the very tip of the board, since your chest will be further up when paddling. This means quicker planning and more speed. The single concave directs water to the even-deeper concave under the front foot, which is then distributed through the fins and double concave. This helps the extra-wide chop tail create drive and stability.

More surface area results in quicker and easier planning. This puts more foam on top of the water, rather than pushing water out of the way like a displacement hull. The result is an effortless glide. The chop nose creates a parallel rail line which increases down-the-line speed. There is also less swing weight without the tip. If you were to continue the rail line to an imaginary point, you would connect somewhere between 4-8” inches past the chop nose, so if you are surfing a 5’8” Cobra, you have a similar rail line and surface area to a 6’0”.

If you have room for something different in your quiver I would say the Cobra is a great performance groveler that can be pushed in a variety of conditions.
